Donate A Book, Share A Story

Description

Kiwanis Club of Taman Tun Dr. Ismail (KCTTDI) and Books For A Better World (BFBW) have come together once again for another collaborative effort. "Donate A Book, Share A Story" has been running consecutively for three years, and today it was held at Tropicana Gardens Mall (TGM). Together with Nature Farm, ED Labels, D’Italiane, and GSC, we joined forces to make the day extra magical for the children of The Assembly Learning Centre (TALC).
The children were initially shy as they took to the stage, but they soon overcame their fear and sang a few delightful songs, with the guests cheering and singing along to boost their confidence. We had the privilege of YAM Tengku Datin Paduka Setia Zatashah Binti Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, YBhg Puan Sri Dato’ Hajah Khir Johari (also known as Mama Kiwanis), Andrew Ashvin of Tropicana Gardens Mall, and Adrian Ung (CEO of Books For A Better World), who personally presented Christmas gifts to the children.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all our sponsors: BFBW (for gifting books), TGM (for the musical box & carousel ride), Nature Farm Enterprise (for refreshing coconut water), ED Labels (for stationery and bags), D’Italiane (for the delicious lunch & desserts), and GSC (for popcorn, drinks, and Moana 2). Their collaborative effort truly exemplifies the true meaning of Christmas, spreading joy and promoting literacy among underprivileged children.
This collaborative effort aims to boost literacy among underprivileged communities, and today we were able to treat 40 children and teachers to an unforgettable experience. We plan to continue our efforts and are happy to announce that from January onwards, we will be donating 1,000 books to various homes, shelters, and communities around the Klang Valley.
If you would like to be part of this effort, please get in touch with us. Together, we can make a difference!

Back to Nature with Youth at Garden Spring, Cheras

Our Back to Nature with Youth activity, organised in collaboration with The Blue Ribbon (TBR), was successfully held at Garden Spring, Cheras. The programme brought together Key Club members from Tree Top International School and Aspiration International Secondary School, accompanied by their teachers. We were also pleased to welcome several non-Key Club participants, including friends and family members of our members. In total, the activity was attended by 14 youths, 4 adults, and 3 representatives from TBR. Participants were guided through five hands-on activity stations: Harvesting Blue Pea FlowersMaking Blue Valley Drinks using edible items from the gardenSoil PaintingSelecting and Mixing SoilPlanting Forest Seeds and Saplings The facilitators from TBR were knowledgeable, engaging, and passionate about sharing their expertise. They made each station interactive, enjoyable, and meaningful for the participants. The event received positive feedback and was a wonderful opportunity for youths to learn about nature, sustainability, and the importance of caring for the environment. As we continue to live in an increasingly digital world, opportunities for young people to connect with nature are becoming more important. We hope to organise more activities like this in the future, not only for our youths but also for ourselves as we continue to learn, serve, and grow together.

Talking SENse: Understanding Behaviour Through a New Lens

On 24 April 2026, members and guests gathered for Talking SENse, an initiative by the Kiwanis Club of Taman Tun Dr Ismail (KCTTDI) aimed at fostering deeper conversations around special educational needs. The session featured neuropsychologist Dr Nancy Menon, who shared both her professional expertise and personal experiences in supporting neurodivergent children with behavioural challenges. Her insights offered a powerful reminder that behaviour is often a form of communication—one that requires understanding, patience, and the right support systems. Through real-life examples and practical perspectives, attendees gained a clearer understanding of how to approach behaviour with empathy, moving beyond labels to better support children in their environments at home, school, and in the community. Talking SENse continues to be a meaningful platform for raising awareness, reducing stigma, and equipping families, educators, and the wider community with knowledge that makes a difference.

KCTTDI Hari Raya Fellowship: Connecting, Sharing & Moving Forward Together

On 19 April 2026, the Kiwanis Club of Taman Tun Dr Ismail (KCTTDI) hosted a warm and meaningful Hari Raya Fellowship at Turkish Istanbul Café, bringing together both members and non-members for an afternoon of connection, reflection, and shared purpose. We were honoured by the presence of Puan Sri Datuk Hjh Khir Johari, whose attendance added to the significance of the gathering. The session provided an opportunity to update attendees on several key initiatives that continue to shape the club’s impact. Among them was the Kiwanis Child Development Centre (KCDC)—an important initiative focused on providing accessible early intervention and therapy services to children from underserved communities. Guests were also introduced to the Service Leadership Programme (SLP), Kiwanis’ youth development platform that empowers young people through leadership, service, and community engagement. In addition, updates were shared on the upcoming SEN Summit 2026, as well as Talking SENse, a platform aimed at fostering greater awareness, understanding, and conversations around special educational needs. Beyond the updates, the fellowship was a celebration of community—marked by good food, meaningful conversations, and the joyful celebration of April-born members. Events like these reflect the heart of Kiwanis: building connections, raising awareness, and inviting more people to be part of a shared mission to serve the children of the world.
