Dato’ Fatimah Saad, Charter President for KCTTDI

The Kiwanis Club of Taman Tun Dr Ismail (KCTTDI) was established passionately by Ybhg Dato’ Fatimah Saad on 19th September 1995. Today we have 23 members, 16 Friends of KCTTDI and one SLP Club (KYUEM Lembah Beringin). Since its humble beginning in 1995, the club has come a long way in making impact through membership and contributions. For the last 27 years, KCTTDI has grown to be more strategic. We are are committed to the worldwide mission and slogan of Kiwanis which is “Children Need Kiwanis”.

This club was founded by Dato’ Fatimah Saad who joined the Kiwanis family in 1993. Being a resident of TTDI herself, she joined forces with like-minded individuals to drive projects that would benefit children in line with “Children Need Kiwanis.” She also proudly served as Governor of Kiwanis Malaysia District for the term 2015/16. Today, she remains the Charter President of KCTTDI.

President’s Message

Pn Fatimah Abu Bakar, President of Kiwanis Club of TTDI

Kids need Kiwanis.  Serving the Children of the World. These taglines seemed to be echoing in my head for several days after I met Dato’ Fatimah Saad, the Charter President of Kiwanis Club Taman Tun Dr Ismail for the very first time in a cafe in Bangsar Shopping Centre.  The timing was so perfect as if she knew that I have just retired from Petronas.  I asked myself so many questions; would I have enough time between my job as a CEO of a training and consulting company.  Would I be able to commit to autism, down syndrome and dyslexia which I know nothing about? Would I do justice to myself at retirement that I was supposed to take it easy and reduce my running around like a headless chicken. Will my five children support me in my new passion?

For the last three years of being a member of Kiwanis Club Taman Tun Dr Ismail, I could not stop counting my blessings for being part of a club with so many warm and compassionate senior and new members of KCTTDI.  I found myself reflecting on how blessed I have been to be invited into this worthwhile cause.

As the president of the club, I would like to thank everyone in the club for having the trust in me to lead the club since 2019.  This forthcoming installation event on 16th October 2022 will be my third round as the leader of the club.  I am extremely pleased with our accomplishments and at the same time I am excited to challenge ourselves to do more for the children who need Kiwanis and who we serve.  Thus, after a strategic workout with the new office bearers; Lyza Ghazali, Desiree Kaur and Dr Hamidah Mohamad, we presented our two strategic focussed areas for the next five years; to enhance literacy and to contribute to Special Education Needs immensely. We are again thankful that the proposition got accepted by the board.

In the recent Kiwanis Malaysia District Convention (DCON) 2022 in Ames Hotel, Melaka, Kiwanis Club Taman Tun Dr Ismail has been granted the responsibility to organize the Leadership Conference and District Convention for 2023 and we won the bid and the task was awarded to KCTTDI. All these have taken place so fast that it felt like I was dreaming. I am still pinching myself to reassure myself that all these honourable recognitions of being one of the distinguished clubs, all the pins and awards presented to our esteemed members; Dato Fatimah Saad, Cikgu Rogayah Saad and Doris Chew received from our beloved Mama Kiwanis are not in my dreams but a reality.  I came to realise that all these members who have served children through Kiwanis Malaysia are authentic and sincere in giving their time, money and efforts selflessly.  They did not do it for the accolades but they received these awards as the recognition of the Kiwanis Malaysia Board for their noble contributions to the betterment of the children especially those with special needs in our country.

I dedicate this memoir to our beloved Mama Kiwanis for her constant guidance and love that she showered all of us in KCTTDI and always encouraging us to do more not by her words but by her inspiring selfless community work especially the Soup Kitchen to feed the homeless and needy in Chow Kit Road. It is a tough act to follow Mama but we all we try our best to contribute through KCTTDI to serve children of the world.

To all KCTTDI members, I express my gratitude and my highest focussed recognitions to all of you; Dato Fatimah Saad, Cikgu Rogayah, Datin J, Firoza, Halifah, Jackie Wong, Rizlan Ghazali (who is now LG for Division 3, well done Rizlan), Sherry, Prof Dr Abtar (who is appointed at UNESCO Chair), Datin Hanin, Shafique, Desiree Kaur, Dr Hamidah, Lyza Ghazali, Nor Fitri,  Nor Farisya. Nabila Huda (Bella), Rahman Shafiqee, Munirah and Hasmidah.  Do know that I could not have done all the activities without your immense support and contributions.

Let’s work cohesively and sincerely together to give more children and more communities who need our helping hand to combat against illiteracy and neglect.

Thank you everyone.

Fatimah Abu Bakar
